What do I need to know before I start?
Rough numbers work: footprint (length and width, or total square footage), stories, visible downspouts, whether guards are installed, nearby tree cover, and roughly when gutters were last cleaned. Guessing is fine.
How does it turn my inputs into an estimate?
Estimated gutter length. For a rectangular footprint, length is the perimeter: 2 x (length + width). With only square footage, we estimate a square footprint and use 4 x the square root of that area. Homes with wings or an irregular roofline usually have more actual gutter than this estimate, so the result is labeled a starting point, not a measurement.
Estimated downspout count. Roughly one downspout per 35 feet of gutter run, minimum two, rounded to a whole number. This is a rule of thumb for sizing a job, not a code requirement.
Stories, guards, trees, last cleaning. These don't change the length or downspout estimate. Stories affect access and price. Guards are flagged so the visit is scoped correctly; see cleaning with guards. Tree cover and last-cleaning date feed a recommended frequency; see the frequency tool.
What does the optional annual-cost view show?
