Overflow, plants, and visible debris can mean your gutters need cleaning. They do not prove that cleaning is the full solution. Use the location and timing of the water problem to separate a likely clog from a damaged gutter, a roof problem, or a blocked underground drain. You can make this first check from the ground.

What to record during the next rain
- Stay on the ground.
- Record the exact overflow point for 20 to 30 seconds.
- Record whether water exits each visible downspout.
- Note whether the rain is light, ordinary, or unusually heavy.
- Photograph sagging, gaps, stains, or standing water after the rain.
These details make a cleaning request more useful. They also reduce the chance that a repair or drain problem is treated as a cleaning problem.
Limits of this check
Ground-level observations cannot confirm hidden debris, gutter pitch, roof condition, or the state of a buried drain. Cleaning removes reachable debris. It does not repair gutters, diagnose roof leaks, or clear buried drainage pipes unless that work is separately inspected and agreed.
